Firstly, I would like to congratulate Cricket Ireland on their excellent coverage of the game on YouTube. At certain times there were more than 10,000 people watching it live online and I am sure there will be many more on Sunday. Being 5,000 miles I am used to watching the ball by ball updates provided by CricketEurope and hugely grateful for this service, but the live video streaming coverage made me feel like I was in Castle Avenue.
It was a great effort by the team, and the disappointed comments from the players because we failed to win really showed how far Irish cricket has come on in recent years.
@Liamo, the logic behind D/L can be explained very easily. Pakistan started the game planning to bat for 50 overs. When the interruption happened, they lost 3 overs that they were planning to use and this did result in them having to change their game plan, albeit slightly. They should be compensated for this. If they had been bowled out inside the 47 overs, then D/L would have reduced their score as they failed to use up some of their resources.
Ireland on the other hand started their innings knowing what score they needed and how many overs they had to achieve it. I don't think anyone in the Irish team would have any issue with the way D/L was calculated. The system has some flaws, but overall it is a very fair system.

@ Tony Moran:
Would that yesterday's result raised eyebrows in the corridors of power, but I fear that the big-wigs in the ICC, while paying lip-service to Ireland's development will simultaneously write the match off as being a mere "warm-up".
A great great performance by the boys, though.
I'd love to have there to see Stirling Every time I've seen him his runs look like an inevitable and logical outcome of the delivery; his shots never seem forced or contrived.
I think that we're beginning to get to a situation where we don't quite expect these performances from Ireland, but where we do anticipate them.
We rejoice in such results but our surprise at them is less than it once was.
I remember the excitement when Ireland beat Middlesex in a List-A match. It made the front page of the London Times.
Progress indeed.

Many thanks, I have been going to Ireland matches now for over 30 years and have seen many changes, but when i see things that could be better, I will say what could improve and how i feel it could improve.
By suggesting making better use of public transport, and even a joint ticket to make it more affordable and or easier to budget, I dont feel I am being a skinflint, tight or a miser, but trying to find ways to increase the attendance at matches both North and South, and as some of my more critical comments on here after previous matches have since seen changes in policy, I think some one listens to the paying customer.
Again a very well done to all concerned for yesterday, and we will keep moving forward, (oh, time for a little grip, the new electronic scoreboard could have had the D/l target in bigger writing, but still a very enjoyable days cricket, even if a little cold)

Privileged to be at Castle Avenue yesterday to witness some superb cricket. Hats off to all concerned. The sublime Hafeez crafting his brilliant 122. The majestic Stirling once again showing his sublime talent. And the coolness and power of Kevin O'Brien. You could nearly see the calculator in his head counting down. He knew if he was there at the end Ireland would be very close, and very close we were. A day to remember and say I was there. Hopefully Sunday will be the same with another titanic contest. A special mention must go to the Clontarf Ground Staff who did their club proud in trying circumstances. Some even being blown to the ground by the wind while trying to get the covers on, a `Stirling' effort all round by everyone who was there.
