Strabane v Brigade

13 May 2001

Brigade had a convincing 7 wicket win over Strabane who could only manage to score 94 all out. Batting first Strabane struggled against the impressive Gordon Cooke who removed Ciaran Patton for 4 and Terence Patton Junior without scoring. Brothers John and Peter Gillespie then took the score to 47 before disaster struck in the 17th over. Spinner Ivan Nicholl playing his first senior game of the season took three wickets in four balls, those of John Gillespie caught for 21, Mark Gillespie caught behind second ball, and disappointingly Pavan Kumar first ball caught and bowled. Michael Gillespie and Peter then added 32 before the reintroduction of Gregory Wilson saw him pick up 3 wickets in quick succession. Gordon Cooke wrapped up things when he trapped Terence Patton snr lbw and bowled Marty Parke for 0. Peter Gillespie was left stranded on 47 not out which included 5 fours. Gordon Cooke had figures of 4 for 8, Greg Wilson 3-28 and Ivan Nicholl 3 for 24.

In reply John Browne was particularly aggressive as he struck the ball to all parts. Jason Brown went lbw to Kumar with total on 20, but John Browne and Wasti took the score to 76 before Wasti was run out after a mix up. By the time Browne went he had scored 62 out of a total of 82 and this included 9 fours and 1 six. David Cooke and Alan Rutherford saw Brigade safely home for the loss of no further wickets. Pavan Kumar with 2-30 was the only wicket taker for Strabane.
