Drummond v Limavady

Barry Chambers, 23 June 2001

Donemana moved 4 points clear at the top of the table after their win at Drummond, although they were given a mighty scare by the home side. Drummond scored 157 for 9 in their 50 overs with Pakistani professional Wasim Haider top scoring with 39. He was given good support in the middle order by Gregory McDaid and Ally Spratt who made 37 and 21 respectively. Johnny Thompson 3-41, Junior McBrine 2-22, and Azhar Shaffique shared the wickets.

Donemana made a solid start with both openers Shaffique and William Porterfield making 23 apiece. The Drummond bowlers managed to restrict the run rate and pick up wickets along the way with Chris Moore and Simon Dunn taking 3 wickets each. With 26 needed off 2 overs the odds were strongly in favour of Drummond but once again the Donemana saviour was Junior McBrine who scored 46 not out to win the game with 2 balls to spare.
