Bready v Fox Lodge

Barry Chambers, 5 July 2001

Bready moved into second place with a 24 run victory over neighbours Fox Lodge in a game which finished on Wednesday night. Bready batted on Monday night and struggled on a low wicket against some tight Fox Lodge bowling. Professional Wian Smitt batted through the innings for an unbeaten 61. Mark Olphert also made 26. Best of the bowlers was Robert Huey with 4-22. Fox Lodge decided to bat on Tuesday night in damp and overcast conditions and had reached 15 for 1 off 10 overs when bad light finally stopped play. When the match resumed only Johnny Robinson with 44 made any impression as all the Bready bowlers got among the wickets. Davy Lecky took 3-21, Geoff McConnell 2-12 and Boyd Rankin 2-17. This now sets up an intriguing clash between Bready and Brigade on Saturday.
