Bready v Limavady
Barry Chambers, 14 July 2001 Limavady continued their recent good form with an 8 wicket win against Bready, who seem to be faltering in their title challenge. Bready made first use of the wicket and once again Mark Olphert and Wian Smitt were among the runs. The pair added 78 as all the Limavady bowlers suffered. However the returning Decker Curry removed Olphert for 33 with a brilliant caught and bowled despite having injured fingers which prevented him from batting. From then on all of the Bready batsmen proceeded to get themselves out with only Davy Lecky with 15 managing to get to double figures. Iftikhar Hussain picked up 3-31 and Victor McDaid 2-27 as Bready only managed 192 for 8 when they really should have scored around 230. Wian Smitt batted throughout the innings scoring an unbeaten 95, just failing to reach a deserved hundred. In reply Limavady made the most of uncharacteristically poor Bready fielding as Gareth Harron and Ian McGregor added 104 for the opening wicket, with both players being misses on several occasions. Harron made 50 before he was run out. Andy Christie was the only other wicket to fall caught off the bowling of Hamilton for 28 with the score on 173. McGregor ended up unbeaten on 91 and Mark McDaid scored 16 not out as Limavady cruised to victory with 9 overs to spare. Bready will now have to lift themselves for next weeks semi-final clash with Limavady who are looking in ominous form.
