Limavady look to be well on course to gain revenge
Barry Chambers, 7 August 2001 Limavady look to be well on course to gain revenge for their weekend cup humiliation after they bowled out Donemana for 152 on Tuesday night. Donemana won the toss and opted to bat in sunny conditions. They looked to be coasting along with Azhar Shaffique in prime form, and Richard Kee in for the touring William Porterfield , content to play second fiddle. With the score on 44 Kee however completely mistimed a drive and the ball spooned to Victor McDaid off the bowling of Mark McDaid. Soon after the same bowler accounted for Lexie Boyd who he clean bowled for 6. Roy McBrine came in but didn't stay long as skipper Decker Curry bowled him for 7 with the score on 75. All the while Shaffique was batting well and reached his fifty with successive fours off Decker Curry. His knock included seven boundaries and lasted 73 balls. Curry however claimed his wicket when he held on to a fiercely struck return catch to leave Donemana on 91-4. The introduction of Iftikhar Hussain into the attack brought immediate dividends when he had Junior McBrine well caught by Richard McDaid at midwicket for 6. Dwayne McGarrigle and James McBrine provided some much needed impetus to the innings when they added 47 in only 7 overs and a total of 190 looked to be on the cards before Hussain had McBrine caught low down at midwicket by Richard McDaid again for 22. In his next over he had the dangerous McGarrigle caught by wicket keeper Graeme Wells for 26. Jordan McGonigle was trapped lbw first ball by the quicker ball of Hussain to leave Donemana in disarray at 148-8. Gary Neely then committed suicide by attempting a foolish run and was run out at the second attempt after being turned. Hussain then bowled Richard Dougherty for no score to leave Donemana on 152 all out. This total is well within Limavady's grasp as they bid for their 8th successive league title. Their main concern may well be the inclement weather forecast for the next two days.
