Limavady coast to victory
Barry Chambers, 8-9 August 2001 Limavady look to be well on course to defeat Donemana and go joint top of the table with Brigade after Wednesday night's action. They will resume play on 109 for two off 30 overs, needing 44 runs off the final ten to secure victory. It could all have been so different had Donemana taken their chances with Andy Christie, Decker Curry and Mark McDaid all being dropped in the early stages of their innings. As well as being dropped Decker Curry and Mark McDaid also survived run out opportunities. Andy Christie was the first batsman out being caught and bowled by Junior McBrine for 16 with the score on 44 in the 12th over. Decker Curry departed soon afterwards for 23 being easily caught at cover by Gary Neely off James McBrine with the score on 50. Professional Iftikhar Hussain and Mark McDaid then steadied the ship but only after McDaid was dropped by Gary Neely when he had scored only three. The pair had upped the run rate adding 52 between the 20th and 30th overs when bad light brought a premature end to the innings. Mark McDaid has scored 32 not out and Iftikhar Hussain 25 not out. Limavady coasted to victory on Thursday night losing only the wicket of Iftikhar Hussain lbw to Gary Neely for 32 with the score on 122. Mark McDaid made the Donemana team pay dearly for their missed opportunities in scoring an unbeaten 66, which came in 73 balls and contained 5 fours and four sixes. This win now leaves the title race wide open with Brigade, Limavady, Donemana and outsiders Bready all still harbouring hopes of capturing the title.
