Brigade v Donemana
Barry Chambers, 26 August 2001 Donemana dealt a severe blow to Brigade's quest to capture their first title since 1983 when they completed a thrilling 1 wicket win on Sunday. The win must have seemed like déjà vu for Brigade who have now lost 3 games in the league by this margin and also exited the cup by the same margin. Gary Neely clean bowled John Browne for a duck, and Gregory Wilson was bowled by the impressive Jordan McGonigle for 4. Wajahatullah Wasti struck 6 fours in his 41 before he too was bowled by McGonigle much to the delight of the travelling support. David Cooke and Alan Rutherford both fell cheaply to Johnny Thompson and Brigade were in deep trouble at 64-5. Gordon Cooke and Jason Brown performed a rescue act adding 58 runs befor Brown was bowled by Junior McBrine for 16. Ivan Nicholl and Ciaran Curley also were dismissed by Junior going for quick runs. Gordon Cooke remained unbeaten on 54 which had 3 boundaries as Brigade totalled 144-9. William Porterfield completed a miserable weekend when he made another duck caught behind off Gordon Cooke. Azhar Shaffique was then caught by Gordon Cooke off Wajahatullah Wasti for 19 to leave the score on 29 for 2. Johnny Thompson and Andrew Riddles took the score to 62 before Thompson was caught by Nicky Cooke off Jason Brown for 25. Riddles and Junior McBrine took the score to 105 for 3 before Donemana collapsed in dramatic fashion losing 6 wickets for 22 runs. Gregory Wilson dismissed Richard Kee, Roy McBrine and Gary Neely while Gordon Cooke dismissed Junior and James McBrine. At 127 for 9 the last pair of Jordan McGonigle and Richard Dougherty added 18 runs to pull off yet another last gasp win for which they are renowned. This result now means that most probably the winners of the Brigade v Limavady clash will be involved in a play off with Donemana to decide the league title.
