Fox Lodge v Sion Mills
Barry Chambers, 2 September 2001 At the bottom of the table Fox Lodge drew two points clear of Drummond after they convincingly trounced Sion Mills. Batting first Sion could only manage to score 115 on the compact Ballymagorry ground. They were without Sanjeev Sharma who had travelled home earlier in the week and the fragility of their batting was once again exposed. Aidan Boyle made 29 and last weeks centurion Bobby Rao 27. Michael Walker with 4-23 and skipper Robert Huey with 2-30 were the best of the home attack. Fox Lodge went back to the attacking style which had served them so well in the early part of the season and with professional Zahid Javed smashing 66 not out they romped to victory. His knock contained 4 fours and 6 sixes. Johnny Heywood hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 25 before he was lbw to Damien O Neill. Keith Gordon also went lbw to Bobby Rao for 1, but with Javed in prolific form and Mark Mooney also dealing in boundaries the result was never in any doubt. Mooney finished on 24 with five boundaries. This win gives Fox Lodge renewed hope in their quest for survival with Drummond now hoping for a favourable outcome from their games with Limavady and Brigade.
