Ardmore v Coleraine
24-25 June 2002
Ardmore joined Burndennett at the top of the table after a 71 run win over Coleraine. Ardmore had amassed a huge total of 242 for 3 in their 40 overs thanks to a century from Mark Gillespie. He hit no fewer than 8 fours and 7 sixes in an innings which relieves the pressure he had been experiencing since moving to his new club. With four balls of the innings left he needed 15 for his hundred and proceeded to hit 3 sixes to finish on 103 not out. Earlier he had been content to play second fiddle to Charlie Elder who hit 71 as the pair added 123 for the second wicket. Elder's knock included 8 fours and 3 sixes. Ciaran Curley hit a quick 24 before sacrificing his wicket to give Gillespie the strike. Coleraine lost the early wickets of Brian Millar and the prolific Tim Chopra for 8 and 12, both victims of Gerard Brolly. However Vischal Chopra and Rodney Lockhart both batted well to advance the score to 109 for 2 with Chopra hitting 3 sixes and 3 foursbefore being bowled by Elder. Gillespie then bowled Lockhart for 29. Geoff Oliver struck Gillespie for two huge sixes before being bowled by Elder for 22. Iftikhar Hussain in his first game for 5 weeks took two wickets but looked well short of fitness. Stephen McCartney played well for 20 but in the Coleraine fell short finishing on 171, despite a valiant effort. |
