Ardmore v Bonds Glen
27 April 2002
Bonds
Glen away to Ardmore appear to be poised to claim a shock victory after a fine
opening day performance. Five of their batsmen reached double figures with former
Ardmore player Keith Hamilton top scoring with 32 not out. His brother Gary
made 28 and Ian Cooke 31. Earlier Roy Robinson had made a quickfire 26 which
included two sixes and a four, before he became the first of Dessie McCourt's
four victims. Rob Bywater made a flying start to with his new club striking
two sixes from the first three balls he faced. He was trapped lbw by Iftikhar
Hussain for 17. At 90 for 7 Bonds Glen were in trouble but a fine 65 run partnership
between Hamilton and Cooke saw them reach a challenging 159 for 8 from their
45 overs. Dessie McCourt took 4-28 and Hussain 2-7 from their spells.
Ardmore lost the early wickets of skipper David McAllister for 2 and Irish International Mark Gillespie for no score to leave them in trouble. Kevin Martin and Iftikhar Hussain looked to have steadied things taking the score to 53 before Hussain was brilliantly run out to leave the game in the balance at 53-3. Kevin Martin is unbeaten on 35.
