Burndennett v Bonds Glen
20 & 23 May 2002

Burndennett joined Ardmore and Coleraine at the top of the table after a 5 wicket win over the previously unbeaten Bonds Glen. Bonds Glen batted first on Monday night and lost wickets at regular intervals against a disciplined Burndennett attack. All the bowlers early on were economical with Gerry McAuley, Stephen McCay, Colin McGettigan, Aidan Boyle and Zahid Javed all frugal. Their strange decision to leave young Philip Kelly bowling at the death nearly backfired when J Curry hit 20 batting at number ten to take his side to a challenging 123 for 9.

No play was possible on Tuesday night, and while the weather wasn't great on Wednesday night it was to both sides credit that the game was finished. J Curry removed both openers cheaply, and Colin Hall bowled the in form Aidan Boyle. When professional Zahid Javed fell for 29 lbw to former Burndennett player Rob Bywater Bonds Glen were well on top. However a 70 run 5th wicket partnership between Mark Roulston 25, and Gerard McAuley who made an invaluable unbeaten 47 saw Burndennett record a hard fought 5 wicket win.
