Yasir Arafat claims the wicket of Welch of Derbyshire in a totesport League matchYasir Arafat, who for the past two seasons has been one of the Scottish Saltires overseas players in the totesport National League, returned match figures of 9 for 76 against England for the Patron's XI in Rawalpindi. Unfortunately as the match does not have first class status owing to both sides playing 14 men it will not beat his previous best first class bowling of 7 for 102.

His valiant effort meant that the Patron's XI required 158 runs in the second innings to win, however with the pitch taking spin the home side were bowled out for with Ashley Giles returning figures of 4 for 38 and Shaun Udal 2 for 8 to enable England to win by 52 runs. In another Scottish connection Mishbah-ul-Haq ,who had a short spell with Penicuik in the Scottish National League in 2003, was third top scorer with 14.

Arafat, who may well return to Scotland next season, kept up the domestic form he showed earlier this year when he finished joint top wicket taker for the Saltires with 14 victims.

In the Scottish National Cricket League he helped his club side Clydesdale to retain the Premier League title with 630 runs and 43 wickets and in the overall league stats he has career runs of 2354 at an average of 51.17 and 178 wickets with an average of 9.86.

Although not included in the squad for the first two tests he will be hoping that his performance brings selection for Pakistan A who play England in a three day match in Lahore starting on 6 November.
