At the Lloyds TSB Scotland Scottish Cricket Awards dinner which was held at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh with former England captains Alec Stewart and Mike Denness in attendance, Scotland umpire Bill Smith was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to Scottish cricket. Bill who earlier this year announced his retirement has stood in two European Cup finals, the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia in 1998 and the World Cup Finals in 1999 as well as the 2002 Village Cup final at Lord's. He has been a mainstay of the umpiring fraternity in Scotland leading by example with his calm and studied approach to the game. Earning the respect of players and colleagues alike.
International batsman of the year went to Forfarshire's Ryan Watson who was one of the Scottish stars in the ICC Trophy victory in Ireland this year. Ryan won the man of the match award in the final against Ireland with his all round performance. Scoring 94 runs, taking two catches including the dangerous Ed Joyce and the wicket of Andre Botha. His overall tally for the season for Scotland was 637 runs and 26 wickets.
The International bowler of the Year award went to Paul Hoffmann of Uddingston, who was another star performer in the ICC Trophy. He was equal wicket taker in the tournament taking 17 wickets at an average of 10.18 with his best performance coming against Oman when he took 6 for 12. Overall he took 31 wickets and scored 230 runs mainly when he was utilised to good effect as a pinch hitter.
Colin Smith of Aberdeenshire won the all rounder of the year award. Colin another to feature well in the ICC Trophy despite having to miss a few games due to his involvement as a policemen at the G8 summit. He together with Fraser Watts got the Scots out of a hole against Ireland at Bangor when Scotland were 37 for 3 putting on an unbeaten stand of 153 to win the match. His wicket keeping was also exemplary throughout the season.
Heriot's Sean Weeraratna was adjudged the Young Player of the Year. His performances for the Scotland Under 19 team in winning the ECC Championship where he was top wicket taker with 8 wickets at an average of 9.75 earned him the first of his five caps which was against Ireland at Mannofield in the Intercontinental Cup where he was soon in the action taking a smart catch to dismiss Andre Botha. He is currently attending the ICC Winter Training Camp in South Africa and is sure to be in the Scotland Under 19 squad who travel to Sri Lanka for the World Cup Finals next year.
The Player of the Year was awarded to Clydesdale captain Colin Mitchell who led the Titwood side to their second successive victory in the Lloyds TSB Premier Division. Colin had an off spinner took 23 wickets during the campaign.
Ferguslie winners of the Coronel Scottish Cup and runners up in the SNCL Premier Division for the second year in a row scooped the Club of the Year award.
All rounder Kathryn White who has been a member of the Scotland Women's team for the last six seasons won the Woman Player of the Year. Kathryn scored her maiden century for Scotland with 115 not out against Durham and also taking 3 for 35 in the same match.
