Dutch batsman Bas Zuiderent, has been selected by the visitors to the CricketEurope site as the European Player of the Year for 2005. In a poll which attracted 2421 voters, Zuiderent received 1157 votes, or 47.8% of the total. Runner-up was Ireland's Ed Joyce with 869 (35.9%) votes and third, a long way behind was Ireland's 19-year-old star batsman Eoin Morgan with 196 (8.1%).
The other three nominated players were the Scottish duo of Ryan Watson (99 votes) and Paul Hoffman (51 votes), while Denmark's wicketkeeper-batsman Freddie Klokker polled 49 votes.
Zuiderent had a magnificent ICC Trophy campaign in Ireland and was a deserved recipient of the Man of the tournament award, scoring 474 runs at an average of 118.50, including three centuries. He also scored a whirlwind 147 off just 57 balls in the match between the Netherlands and Antigua.
