The Argenitne squad which took part in the Chilean Beach Cricket FestivalA team from Argentina took part in the second Chilean Beach Cricket Festival, held in Viña del Mar on the Pacific coast on the 28th of February and 1st of March. The event, part of the ICC Centenary celebrations, proved to be a great success, with India eventually beating England in the final to claim the Beach Cricket title for the second year in succession.

The Argentina team finished fourth after losing to Australia in the third-place play-off. Two teams from Chile also took part in the event.

Argentina´s team was captained by Rodrigo Scioscia, and otherwise made up of members of the national women´s team, the Flamingos, including Catalina Greloni, Cecilia Birnie, Delfina Canton, Brandy Auld and Belen Casas. ICC Regional Development Officer, Grant Dugmore, also took part on behalf of Argentina.

Matches were played in a sports arena metres away from the Pacific surf, with teams fielding six players in six over matches, with each player having to bowl at least one over. Innovative rules made for fast and exciting cricket action, and a great event … a concept that will hopefully spread to other South American beaches and take the basic principles of the sport of cricket to more people.
