The winning photoThe Argentine Cricket Association are extremely proud to announce that their entrant in the Photograph of the Year category for the annual Development Awards was selected as the Global Photograph of the Year. The photograph, entitled "Hang In There" was taken by Christian Tunon, and captures the spirit of youth cricket with two young Argentine batsmen encouraging one another during a match between Argentina U15 and Chile U15 in Buenos Aires in October 2008.

Argentine Cricket Association President, Ricardo Lord, was delighted at the announcement. "Although perhaps this category is not seen as so important as other categories, we are delighted that the image of cricket development around the world had been focused on Argentina by this photograph. Of all the countries in the world, of all the photographs taken around the world, it is very special that Argentina and this photo of our boys has been chosen as the one which most signifies the concepts of development and spirit of cricket, and this especially so in the centenary year of the ICC."

Photographer Christian Tunon was understandably pleased at the recognition. "Unless you are a professional photographer, I guess you don't take photos like these thinking about winning awards, so it's a great surprise. Photographs are great to inspire other kids and people to take an interest in the game, which is very important for us in South America where cricket is more unknown than anywhere in the world. The kids don't have any cricket on television as a reference, so at least photographs give them a kind of recognition for their results and efforts, more so than just words can. Imagine how happy and motivated the two boys are now that their picture is being seen all over the world!"

On top of the recognition of winning the global award, their is also a prize of cricket equipment awarded to the winning Association to the value of $2,000, a valuable boost for a country where obtaining cricket equipment, taken for granted in many cricket countries, remains a major challenge.
