The 2008-09 season ended with St.Alban's probably the side with the most to celebrate. Not only did their 1st XI clinch the First Division title, but their 2nd XI followed up the success of the senior side by winning the Second Division.
It was a close call in both competitions, the St.Alban's 1st XI winning the premier league (90 over declaration format) by just one point over the powerful Hurlingham side, while the second team in fact tied on points with Old Georgians, but were declared winners after a run rate count-out.
In fact, in the First Division tournament, St.Albans won one less game than Hurlingham, but a crucial winning draw in one game, along with one less loss than their Hurlingham rivals, meant the Corimayo-based team clinched the title in nail-biting fashion.
Hurlingham made up for the disappointment of losing out in the First Division title race by winning the 50 over Robin Stuart Shield with an unbeaten record in the tournament. This time St.Albans had to be content with second place.
The Saturday Championship (played for by 2nd XI's) ran a remarkably similar course to the Second Division tournament, with two teams ending on equal points, Old Georgians and Lomas "A". This time though Old Georgians finished stronger on run rate, and thus grabbed one title out of two photo finishes.
The Third Division, largely a division for the development of young up-and-coming players getting experience of senior cricket with senior players, was comfortably won by Bede's Grammar School, with St.George's Knights in second place.
Thus a long and eventful season has finally drawn to a close, and a winter of international tournaments and plenty of domestic junior development initiatives, including the U13 and U11 Winter Cup's, loom on the horizon.
The Argentina cricket season traditionally runs from late October to early April.
