Catalina Greloni1. The Americas Championship was obviously a success for Argentina. Why do you think the team performed better than expected?

Esteban MacDermott:
As a coach I was very pleased to see our women performing in this tournament. I was always confident and sure that they could compete at this level, but it always takes one moment for the team to click and believe in themselves. They had all the tools to do well, and I think that win against Bermuda on the first day, filled the group with confidence. We had put in the hours of work, so I think it was a well disserved performance for the team and I am sure this only the first step.

Catalina Greloni:
As this was our second tour, we knew what to expect from the other teams and also, we were much confident in our invidual abilities and our strengths as a group. The performance was much better due to hard work being done over these past two years. We never stopped training though the year and played hard during the cricket season as a team. We improved working together as a team, we started thinking more and answering according to the different cricket situations and having confidence in what we have, that is a lot.

2. Based on the progress Argentina has made in the last few years, what do you hope the progress to be in the next couple of years leading up to the next Americas Championship?

Esteban MacDermott:
I believe the group must understand that there is still a lot of work to be done, it is going to be a different challenge. People will expect more from us and it is up to the team to keep the hard work, we know the potential is there, with good hard training we will become a better team and give ourselves a chance of even winning the competition.

Catalina Greloni:
First we need to broaden the base, get more women to play the game in order to have more competition and raise the playing standard. This will work out having a women domestic season. Also, we have a young team that although we got great results in this last tour, i am sure that noody was satisfied with ending third so probably work hard as a group and individually to improve our standard so we can win the next Americas Championship.

3. Eleven of the team played in Toronto two years ago, so basically the same squad. What are the major differences between then (Toronto) and now (Miami)?

Esteban MacDermott:
I think the difference is the experience gained in these last years. The more matches this team plays together, the better they will become. We had different competition since last Americas Championship, and the time in the middle is the best way to prepare for our women. I firmly believe that we were better prepared in this area coming into this competition, and that this made a big difference in our performances.

Catalina Greloni:
I think that Toronto was a great experience as it was the first time we played international matches against women. We used to play warm up matches against u-15 boys to have competition before the tour, but never faced women on the field. In Canada we saw that we had a lot of potential to develop and that is what we did these years. There are no magic formulas or it’s not a matter of having good luck. We knew what we had to do and improve and that is what we did, train and play a lot. Another thing that was very important for our preparation was having T&T; and Brazil coming to our country to play against them. We are lacking cricket matches between women, so it was good to have some competition throuout these 2 years to see the improvement.

Grant Dugmore and Billy McDermott4. The current Argentina team seems to be a "generation", in other words, all the girls are a similar age. As this group eventually ages, what is needed in Argentina to ensure a feeder system of women cricketers from youth levels?

Esteban MacDermott:
We as ACA, need to work hard on creating competition at different levels for girls who want to play cricket. We need to use the image of the National Team and build on their recent success to promote our game and increase the number of younger girls playing.

Catalina Greloni:
As we are in process of getting more people to play the game, we are creating a structure of 3 different ages: senior squad, u19 and u13. First to get involved in the game and in the domestic season and then, selecting people to join the Flamingos (National Squad) Getting more players trying to be part of the national team will make us better cricketers.

5. Apart from Argentina's performances, and without referring to Argentina, what for you were the highs and lows of the tournament?

Esteban MacDermott:
The highs of the tournament, were for me the number of teams (two more than the previous edition) and the spirit of cricket shown throughout the tournament. Everyone involved (Players, umpires, ICC staff, coaches) put cricket first and that is one of the things that make this tournament unique.

Catalina Greloni:
In the highs of the Americas Championship i would say that I was very happy to see two new teams in the tournament, Brazil and USA, as we got more women playing in the region and more competition. Also, it was evident that the playing standard is getting much better in all the countries. there were a lot of people involved in the development of the tournament such as managers, umpires, match referees and it looks like there is a lot more attention being paid to women in the Americas Region. Definitely, the lowest was the weather! Not having the chance to play against Canada was very frustrating to all of us as the last game we played we lost against USA. All of us needed to demonstrate that we could reverse what had happened and we were confident and ready to play. Unfortunately we didn’t have the chance or reserve days left to play. Another thing was the format of the tournament, having to play T20s and 40 overs game. It is very difficult to be prepared in less than one week to play two very different playing formats.

6. In summary, how would you describe the Miami experience, and what do you think the future holds for women's cricket in Argentina?

Esteban MacDermott: The Miami experience to them has to be the starting point of big things for Women's Cricket in Argentina. The players now know for sure that they can compete at this level, and that their skills and potential are amongst the best in the region. I think that these tournaments mark teams, and being such a young team (average 21) the sky is the limit for this group of players. Having shared the last three years with them, I know that although the know they did well, they are already looking forward to the next edition and will aim to come first this time.

Catalina Greloni: The experience of this tour has been the best i ever had. everything has worked out well: the team, the matches, manager, physio, the president that came with us and coach, all of them gave us support and help us in each instance of the tour and im taking great memories, on and off the field. Also, it was very nice to see again some friends that we already have from the other countries and share with them different opinions about what we can make to keep cricket growing in our region. Argentina’s women’s cricket has no limits. We need to take advantage of how this tour ended to encourage new girls to come and play the game. We need to grow in number but referring to Women s national squad, we are already with our heads on our next Americas Championship.
