An injury has forced batsmen Abdool Samad out of Cricket Canadas upcoming tour to Europe.

The selectors were quick to replace the versatile batsmen with veteran batsmen Zubin Surkari. The 29 year old Surkari was a regular feature in the team in 2008 last playing at the ICC Americas championship in Florida.

Canadas tour of Europe begins on July 2nd 2009 with an Intercontinental Cup match against Scotland in Aberdeen.

With the acceptance of Ben Senniks retirement effective July 1st, 2009 Cricket Canada is pleased to confirm today that first vice president Ranjit Saini will assume the duties of President.

In accordance with the constitutional requirements of Cricket Canada, Saini will assume the duties of President until the Annual General meeting or sooner should the Board of Directors take steps to elect a new President.

Saini was upbeat about taking on the new responsibility saying I am excited to take on the new challenges and we have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and monthsMr. Sennik has left us a good platform from which to build on and we must do our utmost to ensure Cricket Canada continues to forge ahead

Six Canadians have been honoured for their outstanding contributions to Cricket in Canada by the International Cricket Council at the recently concluded Centenary week in London, England.

The Canadian recipients of the ICC Centenary Medals are Calvin Clarke, Clifford Cox, John Davison, Geoff Edwards, Jack Kyle and Martin Vieira.

Clarke and Cox have both served the Cricket Canada for over 30 years in various capacities and have been instrumental in building the game at both the regional and national levels. They are both current members of the Cricket Canada executive and instrumental in the workings of the organisation.

Edwards and Kyle are both past presidents of Cricket Canada. Edwards presided over Canadas 2001 World Cup qualification run and saw the team into the 2003 Cricket World Cup where Canada achieved its first and only win against a full member country. Kyle has been a stalwart of British Columbia Cricket for a half century and his work especially with junior cricket has been an unparalleled success.

Arguably Canadas greatest player on the field, John Davison vaulted to international stardom with a century in the 2003 Cricket World Cup against the West Indies and has continued to play strongly for Canada since. He took 17 wickets in a first class match against the United States in 2004 and has the second fastest century and third fastest half century in the history of the Cricket World Cup.

Martin Vieira is the current Regional Development Manager for the ICC Americas region but was a long time member of the Cricket Canada executive as well as holding various positions in Ontario and Toronto.

Cricket Canada is extremely proud of these Canadians and is grateful for their contributions.
