The three top ranked countries overpowered their opposition on the opening day of the Americas Region U19 Championship.

A long wet summer in Toronto made conditions very difficult for the grounds crew at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, but once again under the supervision of grounds manager Austin Ward , three excellent pitches were provided for day one of this very important tournament.

Game 1 between Argentina and defending champion Bermuda lasted just over three hours with Bermuda coasting to an easy eight wicket victory.

Argentina won the toss and elected to bat but soon found the going tuff losing regular wickets and offering no resistance the team was all out in just 33.3 overs. Christopher Douglas speeded the end for Argentina by capturing four wickets for fours runs in just 3.3. overs. Top score for the South Americans was Gabriel Gonsalez Sutil with 20 runs. Bermuda easily passed their target in just 13.3 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. The batsmen were helped by a rather untidy bowling performance by Argentina with their bowlers contributing 30 wides to what was a modest target. For his outstanding all round performance Christopher Douglas was named Player of the Match .

Game 2 was also a one sided affair with the USA squad putting on an impressive batting display against the Bahamas. The Bahamians won the toss and elected to field. The USA batsmen wasted no time as the openers Abhijit Joshi and left hander Henry Wardley smashed the bowling to all parts of the field on their way to an 82 run opening partnership. The South African born Wardley, an impressive left hand bat, shared another partnership for the fourth wicket of 77 runs with Gregory Sewdial. The Americans ended their 50 overs with 325 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Henry Wardley with 73 was top score, followed by Gregory Sewdial (57) who smashed five sixes. Top bowler for the Bahamas was Orlando Stuart taking four wickets for a very expensive 79 runs in 10 overs. Bahamas in reply did not make an attempt to chase the mammoth total but instead took valuable practice batting 35 overs before being all out. Wicket keeper and opening batsman Turan Brown batted all 130 minutes of his team innings to top score with 32 not out. For his brilliant innings of 73 Henry Wardley was named Player of the Match.

Game 3 was also an easy victory for one of the favourites of the tournament the host country Canada. Cayman Islands won the toss and elected to bat . The Canadians wasted no time in sending back two key batsmen , skipper Ramon Sealy and Darren Cato with only 16 runs on the board. Pace bowler Arsalan Qadir took three wickets for 26 runs while Zain Mahmood kept the slide going capturing three wickets for fours. Top scorers for Cayman were Zachary McLaughlin (20) and Sacha DeAlwis (28). Canada had no difficulty chasing the modest score of 84 with the openers Hiral Patel (53) and Ruvindu Gunasekera (20) sharing an unbeaten opening partnership of 85 runs in just 8.4 overs. Zain Mahmood was named player of the game for his fine bowling spell of 7.2-4-4-3.
