Excited Arbroath president Geoffrey Fisher last night labelled his club's First Division title showdown with Heriot's as the biggest event in the history of the club.

Arbroath square up to the capital team at Lochlands on Saturday in a winner-takes-all clash.

And Fisher admitted he just can't wait for the action to start.

He delivered his assessment after Arbroath earned a share of the spoils in a dramatic game with Scottish Cup finalists Stirling County at New Williamfield and Heriot's thrashed strugglers Penicuik.

Heriot's currently have their noses in front, however an Arbroath win on home turf will enable them to complete a last-gasp leap-frog act.

Fisher declared: Quite simply, it will be a massive occasion the biggest ever for us.

We have already qualified for the top flight, but to go there as champions would be a tremendous feat.

Above all else, it would be great testament to our youth policy and the way so many kids have climbed the cricketing ladder.

"It all started in the days when Timmergreens Primary School did so well at Kwik Cricket.

There was a steady stream of teenage talent coming through at the club and we have been able to include 15 and 16-year-olds in the first team on a regular basis.

I am reluctant to pick out any individuals there have been so many success stories."

Chris Williams (61) and Calvin Burnett (40) paved the way for Arbroath to reach 172, with home skipper Phil Rees taking three for 30.

Ian McGhee led the County response with 70.

Ryan Watson's return to form continued in Forfarshire's bid for a top-three Premiership finish.

He notched an excellent half-century in the 37-run victory over Clydesdale at Titwood.

It was also a great return to action for Richard Gallagher, who picked up five cheap wickets.

Vasu Reddy (79) was the batting hero for Dunfermline in their comfortable success at Greenock.

Aparajit Singh and Yasir Arfat then shared eight scalps as the hosts made 200 in reply to the Knights' 265 for seven.

Back to the First Division and Falkland came out on top in the basement-zone battle with Stenhousemuir at The Tryst.
