Basement boys Kelburne posted a vital victory in the SNCL Second Division.

The Whitehaugh side defeated nearest rivals Weirs at home by 25 runs to go level on points with their struggling opponents.

Kelburne posted 128 runs but Weirs could only muster 103 in reply.

Notable contributions came from Kelburne allrounder Scott Hamilton, who took four wickets for the loss of just 18, while the experienced David Harper was also on good form, taking three for 13.

But there was disappointment for Renfrew Cricket Club when they returned to play their latest league game.

The KGV side slumped to a 71-run defeat away to Freuchie.

Freuchie set a target of 170 runs but the visitors were only able to reach 99 in reply.

Imtiaz Uddin took three Freuchie wickets.

Ferguslie experienced a frustrating afternoon when they played host to Corstorphine, again in Division Two.

Corstorphine set a target of 225 for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs.

And while Ferguslie matched it, they were unable to beat it so both teams are awarded five points each.

Overseas professional Pravanjan Mullick was Ferguslies top scorer on 60 runs, while Alan Mories scored 39.

The result does mean, however, that the Meikleriggs side are guaranteed to finish the league season in second place behind champions Dumfries.

Ferguslie plan to hold a players end of season meeting at the Meikleriggs clubhouse next month.

It will take place on Thursday, September 9, and start at 7.45pm.

The meeting will give members a chance to reflect on the past season and to plan for the future.
