Limavady may have to start preparing for life without Decker Curry - after 18 years, as captain and star player.

The veteran all rounder and former Ireland international sat out the midweek game against Brigade, the first time anyone can remember Curry missing a Limavady game against one of their major rivals because of work commitments.

The fall-out from last Saturday’s Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup tie, when he wrecked his stumps after his first ball dismissal against Instonians and the subsequent off the field incident which led to the game being abandoned has obviously affected the 44 year old who is asking himself is it time to call it a day?

Unless the Roesiders reach the final of the Irish Cup, Curry will not be involved in this year’s competition after receiving a two-match ban by the club who have, like Instonians, been given until Monday to give their comments to the umpires’ report which has been submitted to Cricket Ireland.

Then, after consultations in committee with everyone involved, the status (result) of the match be determined and any disciplinary action imposed.

The absence of Curry this week hasn’t affected Limavady’s performance on the field. He bowled only one over and didn’t bat in the ClubTurf Ulster Cup match last Sunday when they easily dispatched Carrickfergus and then without both Curry and Nigel Thompson, previously unbeaten Brigade were bowled out for 157 and lost by seven wickets.

However last night, Curry also missed the Faughan Valley Cup game at Eglinton which the home side won by 19 runs.

Tomorrow, Glendermott are the visitors to the John Hunter Memorial Grounds and victory could take Limavady to the top of the table, if Brigade bounce back with victory in the match of the day at Strabane.

A win for the Beechgrove side would make it a three-way tie at the top, with Brigade and Limavady both having a match in hand.

Curry is expected to play tomorrow, in one of only three Senior One league games because Fox Lodge and Donemana meet at Ballymagorry in their delayed Northern Bank Senior Cup quarter final, a repeat of last night’s Faughan Valley Cup Tyrone section semi final at Donemana which the home side won by 16 runs.
