Northern Bank Senior Cup
Fox Lodge lost to Donemana by 3 wickets.
Fox Lodge 222 (49.0 overs, B Allen 78, D Brown 39, Junior McBrine 3-41)
Donemana 223-7 (49.4 overs, Junior McBrine 48, R Kee 35, D Brown 3-48)
Donemana dashed Fox Lodge hopes of reaching their first ever Northern Bank Senior Cup final, when they held their nerve to claim a three wicket win late on Saturday evening. James McBrine, batting virtually on one leg following a knee ligament injury, scored the winning run with just two balls remaining in front of a bumper crowd at Ballymagorry.
Junior McBrine top scored with 48, including four boundaries, sharing in a crucial 5th wicket stand of 80 with skipper Richard Kee (35), after Fox Lodge had been in the ascendancy at 89 for 4.
In a solid batting display, Dwayne McGerrigle (33*) hit boundaries at vital times, and youngster Ryan Hunter scored 32 with some trademark cover drives.
Earlier Brian Allen (78) and Darryl Brown (39) had put Fox Lodge in a position of real strength at 181 for 3, before they imploded, losing their last 6 wickets for just six runs, to finish on 222 all out – that was to prove decisive in the final analysis.
Donemana will now host Coleraine in the semi final next Sunday, with Bready travelling to Strabane the day before.
NW Senior One
Strabane beat Brigade by 96 runs.
Strabane 207-8 (50.0 overs, J Beukes 121*, G McElhatton 3-57)
Brigade 111 (36.4 overs, C Patton 4-21)
Strabane moved four points clear at the summit of Senior One, after a crushing 96 run win against fellow title challengers Brigade.
South African professional Jonathan Beukes proved the difference between the sides, as he mastered the tricky conditions to score a brilliant unbeaten 121. He benefitted from good fortune along the way, being dropped on 17, and getting the rub of the green when he appeared to be run out on 55. Brigade also dropped both Kevin Martin (33), and Mark Roulston (26), as they suffered something of a horror show in the field.
Beukes hit 16 fours and a six, facing 126 balls in his unbeaten 121, as Strabane posted a challenging 207 for 8.
In reply, Brigade’s brittle batting was once again cruelly exposed, as they were skittled for just 111. Indeed, extras was the highest contributor to that meagre total. David Barr (26) and Chris Dougherty (13) were the only players to reach double figures.
Medium pacer Ciaran Patton (4-21), in conjunction with Mark Gillespie (2-6), and Phil Eaglestone (2-32) did the damage with the ball for Strabane, who now have ten points, four clear of both Brigade and Limavady.
Eglinton 256-8 (R Butterworth (58), C Pierce (54), A Christie (50), G Dilruk (3-23) v Bonds Glen 15-0 (5 overs).
Eglinton look well placed to collect full points in their clash at home to bottom side Bonds Glen.
Half centuries from Zimbabwean Ryan Butterworth (58), Chris Pierce (54), and Andy Christie (50), helped them to an imposing total of 256 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Sri Lankan off spinner Gihan Dilruk created a piece of history when he became the first overseas professional to represent Bonds Glen. He showed his worth, by claiming 3 for 23.
In reply, Bonds Glen had reached 15 without loss, when the rain intervened, which meant the players would have to return yesterday to finish the game.
Limavady v Glendermott 77-2 (13.5 overs, R Silva 36*, S Killen 33) - Match washed out.
Only an hour’s play was possible at The John Hunter Grounds, with heavy rain forcing the abandonment of the game. Visitors Glendermott would have been the unhappier of the two sides at that juncture, having reached 77 for 2 in 13.5 overs.
Sri Lankan professional Roy Silva had looked in sparkling form, making an unbeaten 36 , and was well supported by the increasingly consistent Simon Killen (31).
This game now joins the back-log of fixtures, caused by the miserable summer, and will be played on a Twenty20 basis in the coming weeks.
NW Senior Two
Creevedonnell beat Killyclooney by 196 runs.
Creevedonnell 295-5 (50.0 overs, A Duddy 116*, N Cooke 87, R McMorris 3-58)
Killyclooney 99 (24.5 overs, J Colhoun 43, N Cooke 4-5, G Neely 4-21)
Creevedonnell justified their pre-season billing with a near perfect performance against Killyclooney at Curryfree. Former Brigade players Alan Duddy and Nicky Cooke showed the Beechgrove side just what they are missing with their batting prowess.
Duddy stroked a brilliant unbeaten 116, while Cooke weighed in with 87. Mark Neely chipped in with 31 and yet another ex Brigade player, Steven Scroggie scored 28 as Creevedonnell amassed 295 for 5. Only Richard McMorris (3-58) troubled the home side.
Cooke completed a fine all-round performance by taking 4 wickets, as did former Irish international Gary Neely as Killyclooney were dismissed for just 99.
Burndennett lost to Ardmore by 18 runs.
Ardmore 207-9 (50.0 overs, A Murphy 99*, S McCay 3-38)
Burndennett 189 (49.0 overs, M Doherty 101, P Brolly 5-35, G Brolly 3-22)
Ardmore remain unbeaten at the summit of Senior Two, after claiming their fifth league win of the season at Burndennett.
They were given a real scare by bottom of the table Burndennett though, as Mark Doherty’s 101 put the Tyrone side in control. Paul Brolly was the Bleachgreen sides hero, taking 5 for 35, including a hat-trick, to secure the 18 run win.
Earlier Adrian Murphy scored an unbeaten 99 to take his tally for the season to 470 runs at an average of 94, as Ardmore posted 207 for 9.
The Nedd 134-4 (18 overs) v St Johnston. Match washed out.
The heavy rain in the Limavady region also caused the abandonment of The Nedd’s home clash with Donegal outfit St Johnston. The game was at that stage in the balance, with the home side having raced to 134 for 4 in just 18 overs.
St Johnston will be hopeful of claiming two points in the replay, to keep the pressure on both Ardmore and Creevedonnell as the promotion race hots up.
Foyle & Londonderry College 136 (G McCarter 35, C Campbell 34, A Malcolm-Bourne 4-18) lost to Regent House 140 for 9 (P Eakin 79 not out, J Glenn 3-27) by 1 wicket.
Meanwhile, holders Foyle & Londonderry College and last year’s runners up Sullivan Upper have been knocked out of the Ulster Bank Schools Cup semi-finals.
Foyle were surprisingly beaten by one wicket by Regent House who will now play Royal Belfast Academical Institution following a four wicket win over Sullivan. The final will be played at Muckamore on Wednesday.
Foyle lost their last eight wickets for just 23 runs to collapse to 136 and an undefeated 79 by Peter Eakin saw Regent home with the last pair at the wicket.
