The regional finals of the Faughan Valley Cup were played on Thursday evening and spectators were treated to some real fireworks at The Holm where cup finalist Bready and Donemana served up a treat.

Kamran Sajid and Ricky Lee Dougherty got the hosts off to a flier, the pair posting a 67-run opening stand before the bowlers fought their way back into it.

Still, 172 looked a good score in the 20-over contest as yet again Marc Fleming proved the pick of the Bready attack.

David Rankin, bizarrely overlooked for IrelandĀ Development selection this week showed a little of what the selectors are missing as he smashed 7 sixes and a 4 on his way to a 31 ball 61.

Steven Clarke added an unbeaten 32 as well but it was his partner at the other end who stole the show. Aga Sabir Ali hit 7 sixes and 3 fours in making 58 not out, his knock taking just 18 balls in total as Bready won through to the grand final by 8 wickets.

The Magheramason side will play Eglinton in next month's decider after Andy Christie's men beat Glendermott in a slightly less swashbuckling contest.

The visitors made 125 for 8 in their 20 overs; Chris Pierce again among the runs with 42 while Gordon Montgomery claimed the bowling honours with an excellent spell of 3 for 10.

The home side's reply never really got going despite Bob Robinson (25), Craig Averill (22) and Roy Silva (22) all getting starts and 4 wickets each for Stephen McCloskey and Ryan Butterworth was enough to book a final place for the villagers with 22 runs to spare.
