Brigade skipper Mark Simpson led his side to a four wicket win when they beat Coleraine from the last ball of their allotted 39 overs.

It looked as if the umpire decision to deduct one over from their reply due to a slow over rate would prove crucial but thankfully, that didn't prove the decisive factor in the game.

Brigade had felt justifiably aggrieved at the decision, imposed after they had taken 9 minutes over the permitted 2 hours 30 minutes, as there were a number of stoppages for batsmen calling for drinks and changing gloves.

Back to the game though and full credit to the Beechgrove side, missing regular openers Chris Dougherty and David Barr who were on representative duty with Ireland Development and the Under 17's respectively.

Matty Moran (37), and Iftikhar Hussain (22) got them off to a steady start, before both fell to david Cooke in quick succession.

Gareth McKeegan, Johnny Thompson and Ryan Brace followed, and at 117 for 5 it looked as if Coleraine were well on top.

Ata-Ur-Rehman and Mark Simpson then added a vital 74 runs for the 6th wicket before Rehman was caught on the boundary attempting a trademark big hit. He had scored 73, and his batting prowess continues to be a welcome bonus for the club who signed him as primarily a strike bowler.

Nick Donnell joined his captain, and the pair mixed up excellent running with the occasional boundary to take their side to a great win. The final run ws scored off the last delivery, a scrambled single.

This win puts Brigade firmly in the title race picture, and their home game with Donemana, whenever it is rescheduled, is taking on an increasingly vital look.
