BREADY

The 2011 season was all about the cups at Magheramason as Trevor Hamilton lifted both the Northern Bank senior cup and the Faughan Valley trophy in his final year as a player at his boyhood club.

A joint-fifth finish in the league was disappointing but you get the feeling that their win over Donemana at Eglinton at the end of July helped get a monkey off their back and could well be the catalyst for more to come.

Having recorded thumping wins at both Brigade and Strabane in their earlier rounds the Magheramason side contrived to lose twice to Bonds Glen in the league as their Jekyll and Hyde nature shone through.

There was the odd batting collapse along the way as well but the emergence of Marc Fleming and Brian Crumley into the senior side represented the more positive aspects of their summer.

If ever a set of figures represented Bready's season it is David Rankin's; the big opener proved in the cups, especially the senior cup that when he is on song there are few better around. Rankin batted 17 times in the league and had a highest score of 48 while his scores in the Blue Riband competition were 76 not out, 81, 155, 126 and 14, an average of 113 in that particular competition.

Professional Agha Sabir Ali hit 809 runs for an average of close to 39 and also claimed 37 wickets at less than 19 runs apiece in a solid season. Steven Clarke also went over 800, no mean feat on an International size ground, his average a fraction under 35 while Bryan Scanlon and Mark Olphert posted well over 400 runs each.

Brian Crumley, who only came in at the half way stage hit an impressive 325 runs in just 12 games while with the ball, Marc Fleming was the leading wicket taker.

The young spinner had 43 victims at less than 20 runs each, a superb debut season effort while David Scanlon was just one short of 40 wickets.

Ian Young claimed 23 in an injury-hit season but all in all this was a summer that will be long remembered at Bready and the club can look forward to adding to their trophy haul over the next few seasons.
