A second place finish in the league and a run to the semi final of the Ulster Cup represents a solid season for Limavady but its difficult to imagine that the Roesiders will be even remotely happy with their lot this summer.

It's difficult not to have some sympathy with their plight either and it seems that anything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

The league campaign opened with a win at Bonds Glen but that was closely followed by a defeat against Fox Lodge before Andrew Riddles' men then strung together six victories, including verdicts over Strabane and Brigade.

Shortly after that it started to go wrong; beaten at home by Strabane in the senior cup, Donemana in the league and that fiasco against Instonians in the Bob Kerr Cup. After that it was to their credit that they hung on as long as they did in the title race, however the next blow wasn't too far away when Adnan Akmal was called into the Pakistan squad just as the race had started to heat up.

Decker Curry's suspension had just kicked in as well and with Stuart Thompson away on Ireland duty it was a depleted Roesiders that then took a pummelling at Beechgrove in the game that turned the title race. Even then their ill fortune wasn't over and their washed out league match at Bready finally brought the curtain down on a horrible year at The Hunter Grounds.

Decker's ban had a huge impact on the outcome of the season. Despite playing just 11 matches, Curry topped the club's bowling averages with 22 wickets at less than 10 runs each, making him one of the few, professional or otherwise with a single figure cost column.

The former Ireland man had 256 runs at an average of over 25 as well while Akmal topped the batting charts in his short stay, his 590 runs coming at an average of over 45.

Runs didn't seem to be a problem for Andrew Riddles' side with a total of 6 players posting more than 350, Stuart Thompson was behind Akmal with 656 at nearly 33 while Tom Riddles was the highest run-getter with 739 at over 30 a time. Mark McDaid had 455 at nearly 22 while Adam McDaid with 370 and Richard McDaid with 364 made up the sextet.

Five more players joined Curry in passing the 20 wicket marker too as Limavady showed off their all-round strength. Simon Dunn never fails to make the list and the spinner returned 35 victims at less than 20 while skipper Riddles had 25 for a similar average.

Ricky McDaid and Stuart and Nigel Thompson returned 34, 32 and 28 wickets respectively and while it all contributed to a bold showing I wouldn't be surprised to see a wounded Limavady set their sights on a mission in 2012.
