There was good news for Donemana Cricket Club at the weekend when club secretary Norma McBrine received confirmation that the cricket committee of Cricket Ireland has agreed to suspend the final year of their 3-year "home" ban in the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup.
Norma confirmed that the club had written to the committee in recent weeks asking for the gesture in the face of their continued committment to Irish cricket at all levels and she was delighted when committee chair Joe Doherty contacted her to advise that CI had agreed to the request.
The Holm side have already been drawn away to the winners of the preliminary round tie between Pembroke and Malahide in the 2012 competition, however they now know that a win there would see them back in an open draw format.
While the reprieve should provide a timely boost for Donemana it is believed that Cricket Ireland have warned that any further infringements would have serious consequences for future participation in the competition.
Nevertheless the club secretary was obviously delighted with developments and said they wanted to put the episode behind them now and continue to build on the positive aspects at Donemana.
"We feel that we have done everything in our power to promote both the club and North West cricket in general in recent years, particularly at under age level and we asked Cricket Ireland to take that, and the fact that we have travelled without incident for the past 2 years into account.
The players and supporters have been becoming increasingly deflated by all the travelling especially since the prospect of winning games was going to lead to yet more away days. Thankfully Cricket Ireland have acknowledged our efforts and we can now look forward to taking our chance in the draw" she concluded.
