WATSON SIGNS UP WITH GLENROTHES FOR 2012

The former Scotland captain and 2007 World Cup player, Ryan Watson, has signed for Glenrothes for the 2012 season.

The Zimbabwe-born all-rounder, who made 194 appearances for his adopted country, announced his retirement at the end of last summer to focus on business interests with his new recruitment company. However, Watson struck up a friendship with the Glenrothes chairman, Eddie Gibbs, during the winter, and has now agreed to turn out for the East of Scotland Cricket Association Division 1 side.

"We have put a lot of time and effort into recruiting new players during the close season and, while that has generally gone very well, we now have a Scottish cricketing legend playing for us, which is simply a massive honour for the club," said Gibbs.

He will be hoping that Watson can display some of the pugnacious brilliance which saw him surge to one of the sport's fastest-ever 100s against the Somerset attack at The Grange in 2003. "Ryan is Scotland's most prolific run scorer, and he has been a superb asset for both Scotland and also Forfarshire over many years. We are very thankful to Ryan for agreeing to play as an occasional special guest and all our lads are buzzing at the chance to play and learn from him in the months ahead."

It is expected that Watson will make his debut for the Fifers when they launch their 2012 campaign, away to Watsonians 2nds at Myreside on April 28.
