It has been a fairly difficult time for the Rectory side of late and whatever of the circumstances that has led to their situation the loss of Stephen Smyth, Craig Averill and Rodney Pearson will probably see them involved in the scrap to stay in the top flight next year.

The pitch and the atmosphere at Bonds Street undoubtedly lend themselves to Division 1 cricket but skipper Gordon Montgomery will be well aware that impressions count for nothing and they will need every point they can get to avoid such a scenario.

Roy Silva returns as professional and the Sri Lankan now carries a large part of the responsibility of keeping his side afloat. He hit the headlines last season with that superb double century at the Holm but he will need a few more big innings' over the course of the summer if he is to make a true mark.

Charlie Elder and Bob Robinson are others whom “Goofer” can rely on in the trenches and the supporting cast will be called upon often enough as well.

Last season Glendermott's attack looked fairly weak and that is another situation that will be causing concern.

No doubt the skipper remains on the lookout for players and if he can persuade one or two of his own who had availability issues in the past to help him out they would definitely have a chance.

What they can call on is experience of course and Montgomery will obviously be targeting the other vulnerable sides around them for the points that could ensure safety.
