CIYMS continued their unbeaten start to the season when they outplayed North Down at Comber in the T20 Cup.

It took a late blitz by the home side to get the final margin of defeat down to a respectable 10 runs - in truth the result was never really in doubt following a thoroughly professional performance by the Belmont side.

In pursuit of 145 for victory, they had reduced North Down to 95 for 7, before the 8th wicket pair of Peter Eakin and Marty Moreland added 39 in the last four overs.

Peter Eakin hit an unbeaten 29 from just 13 balls, and Marty Moreland 18* from 12 as North Down finished on 134-7.

Ryan Haire made 29, with Neil Russell, Johnny Terrett and Andrew Sutherland all reaching double figures, but none was able to kick on with a truly substantive innings.

Jeremy Bray (2-20) and Ross Boultwood (2-26) were the most successful of the CI attack, with Ryan Butterworth (1-20) and Taimur Khan (1-37) the other wicket takers.

After Chris Dougherty had fell for another duck in the first over of the innings, Barry Cooper anchored the CI total of 144-6, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes in his 61.

Jeremy Bray (22) hit 2 sixes in his entertaining cameo, while PJ Moor (22) and Taimur Khan (16) ensured wickets didn't fall in batches.

David Kennedy (2-25), Ryan Haire (2-28) and Gavin McKenna (1-24) were the wicket takers for North Down.

No play was possible in the other scheduled tie between Carrickfergus and Waringstown, which meant the dreaded bowl-out.

The Middle Road side prevailed 3-0 with ex Irish international Ryan eagleson among those hitting the stumps.
