BOTHWELL Castle Policies has been given the thumb’s-up as the Saltires latest home venue.

The Uddingston ground was only handed the CB40 clashes with Glamorgan and Hampshire when Aberdeen’s Mannofield was damaged by vandals.

Rain wrecked last weekend’s clash with Glamorgan but Sunday’s encounter with Hampshire has been declared a success – despite the Saltires heavy 89-run defeat.

Cricket Scotland operations director Euan McIntyre declared: “Everyone seems to be happy with the ground.

“The umpires gave the wicket a good report and there were also positive vibes from both teams.

“All the members and volunteers at Uddingston deserve a lot of credit for the work they put in.

“We would be happy to take games back there and add the ground to our rota of venues.”

Former Saltires bowler Paul Hoffmann, now the Uddingston groundsman, said: “I prepared a wicket in line with the ECB directives for one-day pitches and I think it played pretty well.

“It’s just a shame the Saltires lads couldn’t give us a win.”

After four home games on the trot, the Saltires now embark on six consecutive away fixtures starting at Durham on Sunday.
