On Friday a very young Bready fifths met Sion Mills Seconds in the latter decider at Strabane Park in what turned out to be a very entertaining contest.
The Magheramason lads batted first and skipper Norman Allen top scored with 42 while Ross Dougherty added 41 in their 155 all out. Lee McGonagle showed all his experience to claim 3 for 26 while there were 2 wickets each for Nigel O'Neill, Stuart Dunbar and Mark McNulty.
ONeill was to be a central figure in the match as his 36 from just 13 balls in Sion's reply helped them to 160 all out and a lead of 5 runs. Glen McCallan made 32 of those while Andrew Fleming with 4, Dougherty 3 and Johnny Rutherford 2 were the wicket takers.
The second innings began with the Bready batsmen all chipping in- Andrew Fleming top scoring with 37 and Dougherty again to the fore as he added 29 in a score of 172.
McGonagle again claimed the honours with the ball taking 4 more wickets while Ryan McKelvey and Mark McNulty each picked up a couple.
That left Sion needing 168 to claim the cup and when O'Neill again (33), Ryan Patton (30) and Dale Long (27) combined to get them to 119 for 4, they looked favourites. Johnny Rutherford had taken 3 wickets but the introduction of Jack McIntyre rattled Sion and with figures of 4 wickets for 8 runs he ended their resistance.
The last 6 wickets fell for just 9 runs as Bready claimed the cup with a 40-run win with Ross Dougherty deservedly picking up the man-of-the-match award.
