On Friday 24th August a group of 12 girls from several North West Clubs, including Coleraine, Bready, St Johnston and Donemana were brought together for the first time to play as a team against a Malahide Under 15 Girls’ side.

This was the culmination of efforts by North West Youth Development Officer Brian Allen to encourage girls’ cricket in the Union following coaching sessions at Bready for Under 12 and Under 15 girls during the summer.

Undoubtedly the Malahide team was more experienced since the girls play in a league in Dublin, but the North West girls were able to give them a good game and clearly enjoyed the experience. Everyone involved hope to develop this further next season with the intention that there will be teams formed by individual clubs and maybe a return match for a combined team to Dublin next year.
