It is advantage Donemana at the top of Long's SuperValu Division 1 this evening after Richard Kee's side moved joint top of the table with Coleraine following a totally unconvincing win at Creevedonnell; a result that sees Stephen Scroggie's team now relegated from Division 1.
Creevedonnell batted first in the 20-over match and Kyle Morrow and skipper Scroggie got them off to a solid start, both men making 22 in an opening stand of 37. Ellis McGarrigle added 19 and at 72 for 2 the home team looked set for a decent score despite the testing conditions.
Three wickets from Junior McBrine and two from Jordan McGonigle reined the Creevies back however and from 94 for 4 the 20 overs ended on 103 for 9.
Any thoughts of a stroll were soon dispelled as the visitors got themselves in a real tangle early on. Missing Gary Neely, Jack Glenn and Ciaran McDermott it was left to Brian Dougherty and Ellis McGarrigle to keep Donemana quiet.
Dougherty removed the dangerous Sajid in his first over while his partner put paid to Ryan Hunter and Dwayne McGarrigle to raise hopes of an upset. A crazy run-out when Junior McBrine and Richard Kee ran into each other reduced the cup winners to 14 for 4 and when Gary McClintock fell to a cracking catch from Nicky Cooke soon after, the game looked up.
Crucially, Kee was dropped behind the stumps early on in his innings, albeit to a very difficult chance but the skipper was to make the hosts pay a dear price.
Leighton McGarrigle went for a few early on but with the slow men doing the damage all night, his extra bit of pace was just what the batsmen needed.
With overs running out and Donemana wanting 48 from the last 6 the batsmen went after McGarrigle, taking 29 off his final over. Heads went down in the field after that and Kee's unbeaten 43 coupled with McBrine's quick-fire 33 not out steered the visitors to a nervy win.
The result means that Donemana now go into another huge double-header weekend (away to Fox Lodge and home to Strabane) in joint top spot and with a game in hand but they were given some scare in this.
