CIYMS moved to within one victory of guaranteeing themselves at least a share of the NCU Premier League title with a crushing eight-wicket win over Ballymena at Eaton Park last night.

Ballymena, who were without professional Kaushik Aphale and James Kennedy, could only post 107 for eight batting first in their 20 overs. David Kennedy top scored with 38 from just 36 balls, including two sixes, but Steve Lazars was the next highest contributor with just 17.

Ryan Butterworth was the pick of the CI attack with four for 24 while Taimur Khan conceded just 11 runs in his four overs.

With Michael Glass missing from the Ballymena attack along with Aphale, CI had little trouble cruising towards their target, despite the early loss of in-form Chris Dougherty for seven.

Barry Cooper and PJ Moor effectively took the Belmont side to victory with a 74-run stand for the second wicket.

Zimbabwean Moor struck seven boundaries in making 44 from just 43 balls before being caught and bowled with just four runs needed. Cooper remained unbeaten on 36 from 41 balls. He struck five fours.

Elsewhere last night Civil Service North eased to a nine-win over Lisburn at Stormont. The visitors posted 126 for five with Nathan Waller striking five sixes in a rapid 49 but the outcome was decided by an undefeated second-wicket stand between Nigel Jones (43 no) and professional Griffin Nieuwoudt (62 no).

In Section One Downpatrick beat Muckamore by eight wickets and Cliftonville eased to a 50-run triumph over Holywood at Seapark.
