Cricket now and the North West senior championship is set for a thrilling conclusion this weekend with Donemana and Bready set to fight out the title while Glendermott and Fox Lodge battle to avoid 8th place and next week's promotion/relegation play-off with Division 2 winners Eglinton.
Donemana have the destination of the trophy in their own hands and Richard Kee's side will complete the league and cup double for the first time in exactly 20 years if they beat Coleraine tomorrow and outgoing champions Brigade on Sunday, both matches at the Holm. Should they slip up however, Bready could steal the title from under Donemana's noses.
David Scanlon's side are at Fox Lodge tomorrow and hold a 2-0 lead over their fellow challengers on the head-to-head count therefore a win for them would heap all the pressure on Kee's team. At the other end the Foxes could prove a real handful themselves as they go into tomorrow's game knowing that a win keeps them up.
Should they lose however and Glendermott beat Bonds Glen at the Rectory, it would be the Ballymagorry side left to contest next week's play-off on the basis of another head-to-head ruling.
Further afield, Warwickshire won the English County Championship yesterday under the guidance of former England International Ashley Giles when they recorded a thumping win over neighbours Worcestershire.
There was plenty of local interest in the celebrations too with former North West players Boyd Rankin and William Porterfield picking up winners medals with the Bears. Previously the only Irishmen to achieve the feat were Dermott Monteith in 1992 and Mark Patterson in 1999 albeit they managed just one appearance each in their respective seasons.
