After a year in which they finished bottom of the heap last time Burndennett knew that a repeat would see them take their leave of senior cricket and they responded really well to the threat.

In came “old hands” John McGettigan, Aidan Boyle, Colin McGettigan and Gerard McAuley and the new additions certainly paid their way. Mind you it was a familiar face who was to come up trumps in the end-of-season figures, Stephen McCay topping the batting charts with close to 500 runs at an average of 38. Skipper Mark Doherty gave a solid look to the top of the order with 380 runs at over 29 a time with Boyle next in scoring 233. John McGettigan and McAuley chipped in with around 200 each as did Ross McCay who has started to shape into a decent prospect at this level.

The spin of Colin McGettigan topped the bowling with 22 wickets at a cost of 16 and bits each with “Ski” claiming 20 at 22.4. Boyle wasn't far away with 19 victims in a fairly solid all round showing as Burndennett finished joint-second in the table, albeit a fair distance from the runaway winners.

Despite their success this season the club will be aware that they need to stay focused as the Division moves to 8 teams in 2013. They need as many as possible of those players who returned this summer to hang around a while yet to ensure that the younger players get a bit of guidance.

It would also be remiss not to mention the sportsmanship standards Burndennett set this season both in their actions after the horrendous injury to Ian Young and in making their ground available when weather threatened to affect the season. On and off the field this was a very good year for Declan McGettigan, Kevin Logue, Mark Doherty and the club as a whole.
