LIMAVADY

There's little doubt that the powers-that-be at the Hunter Grounds will be bitterly disappointed at a campaign that rarely, if ever, threatened to spark into life this summer.

Limavady with their proud tradition and history seemed to limp along most of the season and were soon playing catch up in the hunt for honours. Andrew Riddles' men lost two of their first three league matches and were to take their leave of all the major cup competitions very early too following defeats at North Down and Terenure in the first rounds of the Inter-provincial competitions.

Knocked out by Coleraine early in the Northern Bank as well, all eggs were soon in one basket with the championship offering the only hope of silverware, however it wasn't to be.

Unbelievably the Roesiders finished just 2 points ahead of the relegated Glendermott in the final table and it looked far from a happy camp by the end.

Considering that they had brought in Andy Britton this year and he and Stuart Thompson had both made good progress on the International stage, more might have been expected but the stats tell a story.

Not one batsman made the top 20 in the Division's run-scoring charts and no-one managed a century either, Zeeshan Malik's 78 the highest individual score of the year.

Des Curry stood out as he often does with most runs and most wickets but a man well used to posting four figures a season topped their charts with just half of that this time.

Malik was next with 504, a modest enough effort, while skipper Riddles added 484 and Ricky McDaid 426. Britton's 369 runs and 41 wickets was a really good all round effort while Simon Dunn chipped in with his usual 30 victims.

Thompson played just 11 times for his club this summer with a return of 190 runs and 9 wickets and you suspect that he's a much better player than that.

As is usually the case at this time of year rumours are sweeping the North West that certain players are going here and there but we've learned by now that there is always a next season.
