Scotland last night ended their South African touring by squaring their T20 double header with a North West XI.

Pace bowler Ali Evans, who only passed a late fitness test, was the star as the Saltires went one-up with a commanding performance.

Evans claimed 2 wickets for just nine runs to restrict the hosts to 76-5.

Calum MacLeod had earlier scored 29 and Richie Berrington 24 in Scotland’s imposing total of 154-9.

However, the South Africans got their revenge in the second match, despite a brilliant 78 from MacLeod.

His effort helped the Scots post 149-7 but Peter van Neikerk’s 65 steered the hosts to an eight-wicket win with eleven balls to spare.

Coach Pete Steindl said: “Ally Evans bowled really well in what was a convincing performance in the first match.

“But the guys are really disappointed not to win the second game. We had a great platform but didn’t capitalise in the last few overs and came up short.”

Scotland return home having won just two of their twelve tour matches but having blooded five new players.
