Every cloud has a silver lining and that's certainly true of the news this week emanating from Sri Lanka where Chinthaka Jayasinghe has announced his retirement from cricket in the country.

34 year old Jayasinghe has grown disillusioned with his exclusion for the international ranks saying: "I have played 14 years of first-class cricket in Sri Lanka and it's saddening to see the SLC selectors favouring certain players who are proven failures".

"The way things are going, I feel like Sri Lanka cricket is not moving forward, especially after the seniors in the national team retire."

Jayasinghe helped Coleraine reach the top of Senior One before he left in August to play in the Sri Lankan Premier League.

His absence saw Coleraine falter badly in the home straight allowing Donemana to clinch the title.

Jayasinghe scored 710 runs in the 16 games he played at an average of just under 60. In addition he claimed 29 wickets at just over 11.

He has signed a six month cricket to play cricket in Australia before he will join up again with the Bannsiders in April.
