The North West held its annual presentation dinner at the White Horse Hotel on Friday evening as an attendance of around 170 celebrated a landmark year in the Union's history.
Local players and officials were joined by Cricket Ireland President Elect Robin Walsh, Chairman Ross McCollum, Head Coach Phil Simmons, Ireland Internationals Paul Stirling and Boyd Rankin as well as a host of representatives from the local councils and members of the press.
Outgoing North West President Joe Doherty was the recipient of a special award in recognition of his time in the hot-seat but suggested that he was happy that the time was right for him to hand over the mantle to his successor Andrew Fleming.
Joe paid tribute to his colleagues at Cricket Ireland as well as the Union's sponsors and said that it was quite clear that North West cricket was at a very exciting time in its history. Guest speaker Colin Berkley was in scintillating form and regaled guests with a very entertaining speech where no-one was safe.
There were few surprises in the award categories as Donemana and Brigade dominated the Division 1 ranks while Eglinton raced away with the Division 2 honours.
Iftikhar Hussain picked up the top flight batting shield finishing just 10 runs short of the magical 1000 while Junior McBrine's magnificent 60 wickets at less than 13 runs each was more than enough to impress the judges in the bowling department.
Despite being faced with a very difficult task, BBC Radio's Ritchie Kelly announced Johnny Thompson as the very worthy winner of the Radio Foyle Player of the Year with 906 runs and 56 wickets while Junior was back at the podium to receive the Michael Bannigan award for the top all-rounder.
Andy McBrine got in on the act; his 720 runs and 32 wickets enough to see him pip fellow under-19 International Scott Campbell for the Young Player of the Year.
Richard Wylie's superb season was rewarded with the Division 2 batting gong and the villagers' key man also became the first player outside of the top division to be included in Alistair Bushe's News Letter Team of the Year.
Johnny Gardiner completed the double for the newly promoted side as his 42 wickets earned him the divisional bowling shield. Ritchie McBrine's 638 runs in Intermediate 1 meant a pretty full car for Norma on the way home while Coleraine's Andrew Douglas deservedly claimed the bowling honours with 40 wickets at a single digit average.
North Fermanagh's Paddy Spiteri had a superb season in Intermediate 2 with 729 runs at a stunning average of 91 while Ardmore's Ryan Brolly just edged out Bready's Lindsay Allen in the bowling. The Nedd pair Alex Steele (547 runs at an average of over 68) and Johnny Young (28 wickets at 9.5) made it a double for the Kings Lane men in Intermediate 3 after a title-winning campaign.
Young Ross McCay picked up the Intermediate 4 batting gong with 314 runs at an average of 63 while Glen McCallan was a runaway winner of the bowling trophy with 32 wickets at the mean average of just 8 runs apiece.
The Umpires Association awarded their 2012 Fair Play trophy to Burndennett Cricket Club for their sporting actions following the horrific injury to Bready's Ian Young while the prestigious Club Person of the Year award was shared by Coleraine duo Davy Doey and Trevor Harpur for their tireless work on the Statszone programme.
