One feature of the list is that nine of the twelve group matches, including all six in the Netherlands, will take place on weekdays. This should ensure minimum disruption to the domestic fixtures programme, which is always a potential source of difficulty.

It is also striking that the side will end their campaign with a three-match tour, in the course of which they wll take on Warwickshire, Sussex and Northamptonshire.

The schedule will take the Dutch side to three new CB40 venues, including the Test grounds at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge. They will also tread new ground in Tunbridge Wells, having played at Canterbury when they were drawn in the same group as Kent two seasons ago.

Peter Borren’s men will be looking to repeat their 2011 victory at Worcester and to make it three in a row against Worcestershire away; when they took on the county last season the New Road ground was under water, and the fixture was shifted to Kidderminster, where they won a rain-shortened match.

They will have less happy memories of Hove and Northampton, where they suffered two of their heavier defeats in the competition. But Hove was also where Eric Szwarczynski hit a fine century two years ago, only to finish on the losing side.

With Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire among their opponents for the first time, the Orange Lions will want to make a good impression in what is to be their last season in the CB40 competition. The ECB has already decided to restructure for 2014, and there will be no place for the Netherlands in the new set-up.
