The touring Dutch side began their visit to India promisingly on Monday, when they overwhelmed a Dr DY Patil Academy XI by 100 runs in a Twenty20 match.

Batting first against a team which included eight Academy players who recently took part in two three-day defeats at the hands of the England Performance Programme whom the Dutch will meet in a series of games in Pune later this week the Netherlands XI ran up a solid 154 for five, Daan van Bunge leading the way with a 39-ball 45 which included five fours and a six.

Stephan Myburgh (12) and Michael Swart (26) again gave their side a decent start, but after Alexei Kervezee and Peter Borren had gone cheaply it took a 76-run fifth-wicket stand between Van Bunge and Tom de Grooth, made in just ten overs, to ensure that the tourists set a competitive target.

Once Van Bunge had departed, De Grooth and Mudassar Bukhari pushed the total past 150, De Grooth making an undefeated 38 from 26 deliveries and Bukhari adding an 11-ball 17. Prashan Bhoir was the must successful of the Academy bowlers with two for 27 from his four overs.

Paul van Meekeren again demonstrated his progress as a new-ball bowler by claiming two wickets with the final two deliveries of the first over when the Academy replied, and went on to finish with four for 14 in a devastating four-over spell, reducing the opposition to 19 for four.

Then Ashan Malik Jamil took over, claiming three further wickets in three overs at a cost of just 4 runs, and with Bukhari removing the Academys skipper Pravin Tambe the home sides innings was in complete meltdown at 37 for eight in less than twelve overs.

The No. 9 batsman, Pushkaraj Chawan, led a partial recovery and was the only man to reach double figures, but Swart cleaned up the final two wickets as the innings ended on 54 in 16.2 overs to complete a crushing victory.
