Saltires star Majid Haq is the new captain of Clydesdale.

The 29 year-old all-rounder was appointed at a players’ meeting last night and replaces Zeeshan Bashir.

Haq will take the reins as the Glasgow side bid to improve on last season’s second place finish in the CS Western Premier division.

Club spokesman Colin Mitchell said: “We’re delighted Majid has agreed to take on the responsibility.

“He will bring a level of professionalism, commitment and organisation that will give the whole club a lift.

“There’s no doubt that we have under-achieved in recent seasons but hopefully Majid can help change that.”

Haq, capped 160 times, joined Clydesdale from Ferguslie four years ago.
