Newly promoted Pembroke have announced their intentions ahead of their LCU campaign by signing Brenton McDonald.

The 28-year-old is the brother of Australian all-rounder Andrew and one of the Victorian Premier League’s most prominent cricketers.

A leg-spinner regarded as one of the best spinners in the State has represented Victoria at 2nd XI and Futures League level, whilst also played for the Melbourne Renegades during the inaugural Big Bash tournament.

He has played 109 matches in the Victorian Premier League hitting 2,174 runs at 30.19 and taking 149 wickets at 24.36.

McDonald has though dominated the past two seasons in-particular with 33 wickets at 22.24 and 407 runs at 37 in his Premiership winning season with Richmond (2011/12) and 400 runs at 44.44 plus 34 wickets at 14.21 in the current season with Melbourne.

McDonald has also enjoyed success abroad, playing four seasons league cricket in England between 2005 and 2009.

He excelled in each of his stints, with highlights being his final two seasons. In 2008, his second year with Cheshire Premier League club Heaton Mersey, he was awarded “Player of the Season” for 741 runs at 52.93 and 64 wickets at 17.81. The following season, he dominated the Birmingham League for Cannock striking 424 runs at 60.57 and taking 30 wickets at 14.03.

Seeking pastures new, McDonald has signed with Dublin-based Pembroke in the top flight of the Leinster Cricket Union for the 2013 season.
