Half centuries from Jack Tector and Cormac McLoughlin saw the Leinster Development XI record a narrow 12 run win against Northern Universities at Brandon in Durham.
YMCA all-rounder Tector top scored with 65, and found a willing partner in The Hills star Cormac McLoughlin who made a well manufactured 58.
Tom Anders chipped in with an unbeaten 25, while the young Tom Lynch made an important 15 as Leinster finished their 40 overs on 234 for 6.
Nicholas van der Westhuizen was the pick of the students attacks taking 2 for 37.
In reply Kyle Davis' 73 kept his side very much in contention, but Pembroke off-spinner Paul Lawson kept them in check with 2 for 30, while skipper Tyrone Kane led from the front as he took 2 for 34. Tom Anders from Phoenix (1-21) also did well as the Dubliners held their nerve in a tense finish.
Andy Ebdale stroked an unbeaten 33 but with the run rate ever increasing The Northern Universities were dismissed 12 runs short much to the delight of both the players and the back-room staff of Brian O'Rourke and Nigel Pyne.
The teams are back in action tomorrow when the Universities will be intent on gaining immediate revenge.
