Rob,

There is a benefit in that the boys playing in England have shown that there is the potential to make a career in the game now. This must act as a spur to young players. Cricket has lost some superb talent over the years to Rugby etc. At least if there is the chance to forge a career in the game, some might continue in cricket.

Ed raised the bar and a few players have successfully raised their game to follow. It raises the standards across the board.

Re: CRAIG
Of course you are entitled to your opinion but please explain the benefit to Irish Cricket if the English team at the next world cup includes the OUR best players?
The money in cricket continues to grow more in the one-day variety and as such
this should benefit the game here. By your logic Roy Keane and George Best should
have qualified to play for Brazil or Italy!! For those who said it would be great for Irish cricket to have Ed Joyce playing for England,(please read Paul Stafford's excellent column) actually what's best for Irish Cricket is our best players playing for Ireland beating England.

In reply to Ian Dixon who seems to question Portys commitment an pride in playing for and captianing Ireland shows how little you know of the man and your ignorance to the sacrafices these guys put in for the honour of playing for Ireland!

He carried out a duty asked by his county as a junior professional at that county, dont read to much into what was only 12th man duty in which othetrs have carried out before.

Re;butt
A ball above shoulder height of the batsman standing upright at the crease should be called and signalled no ball and the umpires decision is final unless he retracts a
decision himself. See NWICU BYE LAW j.

Barry, I think I remember Raza getting 180 n.o. last year at the rectory against Brigade in a mid week 40 overs league game and still ended up on the losing side.
